Olympic & Paralympic shooting in Great Britain

About British Shooting

British Shooting is the national governing body for Olympic and Paralympic shooting sports in Great Britain. Formerly known as the GB Target Shooting Federation, British Shooting manages elite athlete development, international competition, and the pathway from grassroots to Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Elite Performance Pathway

British Shooting identifies and develops talented shooters from club level through to Olympic and Paralympic podiums. Many world-class athletes began their journey at NSRA-affiliated clubs like Pinhoe TSC.

  • SH2 (Rifle only): Athletes with upper limb impairments who require a shooting stand to support the rifle

Paralympic shooting uses the same ranges and similar equipment to Olympic disciplines, making it accessible through the same club structure.

Performance Pathway

British Shooting operates a structured pathway from grassroots to elite level:

Club Level

Start at an NSRA-affiliated club, develop fundamental skills, and compete in local and postal competitions. British Shooting’s talent identification scouts monitor junior and senior competitions.

Talent Pathway

Identified athletes access development camps, coaching clinics, and pathway competitions. British Shooting provides technical support and monitors progress through national events.

Academy Level

Access to British Shooting Academy programmes with high-performance coaching, sports science support, and funded training at specialist facilities including Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.

World Class Programme

UK Sport funded athletes on the podium pathway receive full-time athlete support including personal coaching, sports science, equipment, and competition funding for Olympic and Paralympic Games.
