About the Pinhoe Trophy
The Pinhoe Trophy Open Prone is our most prestigious competition, first held in 1968 and continuing annually for over five decades. This open .22 prone rifle competition attracts top shooters from across the country who compete for the historic Pinhoe Trophy and a substantial prize fund.

The Trophy
The Pinhoe Trophy itself is a beautiful sterling silver trophy, commissioned in 1968 and awarded annually to the highest scoring shooter. Winners have their names engraved on the trophy base, joining a distinguished list of champions spanning over 50 years.
Trophy Custody
The overall winner holds the trophy for one year, returning it before the next competition. This tradition connects each champion to the history of the competition and the broader community of prone rifle shooters who’ve competed for this honor.

- Class prizes cannot be combined with overall prizes. Next eligible shooter receives the class prize.
Schedule
- 8:30 AMRegistration opens. Equipment check available.
- 9:00 AMFirst detail begins. Range briefing and detail assignments.
- 9:15 AMDetail 1 preparation time begins (10 minutes + sighters).
- 10:30 AMDetail 1 completes (approx). Detail 2 begins preparation.
- 12:00 PMLunch break. Refreshments available. Scores posted for completed details.
- 1:00 PMAfternoon details continue.
- 4:30 PMFinal detail completes. Final scores verified.
- 5:00 PMPrize presentation. Trophy awarded to champion.
Detail Assignments
We run multiple details (squad times) throughout the day to accommodate all entries. Your detail assignment will be provided upon registration. Arrive at least 30 minutes before your assigned detail time. If you have a preference for morning or afternoon shooting, note this on your entry form.
Who Can Enter?
Open Competition
The Pinhoe Trophy is an open competition, welcoming shooters from any club or no club. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or relatively new to prone rifle, you’re welcome to test your skills.
Experience Level
While this is a serious competition that attracts top talent, we welcome shooters of all abilities. Class prizes ensure competition at multiple levels. If you can shoot prone with iron sights, you’re qualified to enter.
Age Requirements
Shooters of all ages welcome. Juniors (under 18) compete for the junior class prize. Veterans (60+) compete for the veteran prize. There’s no upper age limit - we’ve had competitors well into their 80s!
Equipment
You must have your own .22 LR rifle suitable for prone shooting with iron sights. If you’re unsure whether your equipment is legal for the competition, contact us in advance for equipment checks.

Entry Fee: £20 per shooter
Pre-Entry (Recommended)

Submit completed entry form with payment by November 14th to guarantee your place and preferred detail time.
Day Entry
Limited day entries accepted subject to capacity. Day entry shooters will be assigned to available details.

Note: This competition often reaches capacity with pre-entries. We strongly recommend booking in advance.
Entry Closing Date
Pre-entry closes one week before the competition at 9pm. Late entries will not be accepted to ensure proper detail scheduling and adequate staffing. Plan ahead!

Rules & Regulations
The Pinhoe Trophy follows NSRA rules for prone rifle shooting. Key points:
- Rifles must comply with NSRA prone rifle rules (.22 LR, iron sights only)
- Shooters must use the prone position as defined by NSRA rules
- Slings are permitted and encouraged
- No electronic aiming devices or scopes
- Rifles will be checked for compliance before the competition
- Ammunition must be .22 LR rimfire only
- All shooters must follow range commands and safety protocols
- Scoring disputes will be resolved by the Chief Range Officer
