Common Media Queries
What shooting disciplines does Pinhoe TSC offer?
We offer air pistol, air rifle, .22 rifle (prone and sport), benchrest rifle, and action air. Disciplines range from precision target shooting to dynamic action shooting. Our 7 ranges accommodate all these disciplines with modern facilities including electronic target systems.
How long has the club been operating?
Pinhoe Target Shooting Club has operated continuously since the 1960s, with the current facilities developed over several decades. The club formed from a 2005 merger of Pinhoe TSC and Pinnbrook Rifle Club, combining two historic Devon shooting organizations. Our most prestigious competition, the Pinhoe Trophy, has been awarded annually since 1968.
What age groups participate?
We welcome shooters from age 12 upwards with no upper age limit. Our youngest member is 12, our oldest is 87. We have particularly strong junior (under 18) and veteran (60+) squads. About 15% of our members are juniors, 25% are veterans, with the remainder adults. Target shooting is genuinely a lifetime sport.
What safety measures are in place?
Safety is paramount. All activities supervised by qualified Range Conducting Officers. Comprehensive safety briefings required before shooting. Strict protocols for firearm handling, range commands, and emergency procedures. Our safety record spans 50+ years with zero serious incidents. All members receive NSRA-standard safety training.
How do you attract young people to shooting?
Our “Give it a Go” programme (£50 for 3 sessions) provides low-barrier entry. Modern facilities with electronic targets appeal to tech-savvy youth. Junior membership is affordable (£90/year vs £180 adult). We actively recruit at schools and youth groups, emphasizing Olympic sport credentials and individual skill development rather than competition against peers.
